I'm a writer, wanna make the big time but may have to kill Grisham & King. I like to think I'm duly suited to this profession I lived the first 23 years of my life in my imagination.
Glad to meet you, hope you guess my name. OK, enough playing. I'm Jim, I'm a writer I've written a couple of stories that have appeared in Sonar4 The Softest Metal & Are You Safe? Both a look at futures that have repercussions.
I also write the science fiction reviews for Sonar4, so I'd be glad to discuss any of the books I review.
I've been reading science fiction since I was about 15 which was more than 15 years ago. I really enjoy exploring the possibilities the genre offers because I think thats all a writer is about: ideas. I try to offer the perspectives I find of this & other worlds. Most of my fiction is labeled literary fiction because it doesn't deal with fantastic worlds, but everything a writer writes is an alternate history. I create worlds that seem to resemble this one but they're creatures of my devise & they don't exist or I wouldn't need to write the. Or maybe they're attempts to change the world, if only mine.
Galactic Exodus: Counterdance of the Cybergods by Michael Somers which I reviewed for Sonar4 earlier this year has earned 1st runner-up, science fiction Novel of the Year per PREMIER BOOK AWARDS. If you would like to see my review it's on Amazon Galactic Exodus Review or if you would like more information about the book follow the link above.
The review I did last month of The Second Virgin Birth, which is posted on The Landing Pad I also posted on Amazon. It's a very critical review, the Amazon review got a helpful vote! I thought the guy's christian audience would nail me with unhelpful votes. Even though it's a flawed book they give it a lot of stars, I think just for showing up, although there are a lot better written christian books, case in point the Left Behind series.
To start putting together a movie you have to form a corporation and have a lawyer draft a PPL which is like a letter of intent. Then you go out and start finding investors, and having their input etc like they have a cousin who wants to act. Or you can use your own money & do whatever you want. Can I put you down as an investor?
Brooke=HUGE heels! It's cool that Robbie has been able to get iMurders into stores & Netflix, maybe he'll want to produce my screenplay? I kind of pitched it when I met him. Could you do me a favor & go over to my review of iMurders at Amazon & give it a helpful vote? I'm trying to rule the world by becoming a top reviewer. Thank you!
Suzie,
Not yet. I wrote this screenplay that I think is really good but I can't get anybody interested in. I have one guy who is an editor for Paul Schrader who wants to direct & he read it (the editor not Schrader) & he likes it, but his agent nixed it, so I don't know if he still wants to do it. I suppose I should just incorporate & start finding investors for the thing & just do it! I have nothing to lose at this point.
I met Brooke too, she had on these heals that were about 5 feet tall! I put up a review of the movie for Robbie on Amazon, he liked it & asked me to post it on IMDB.
Hi Susie!
That's cool that you got a mousepad! Robbie's a really nice guy I met him on Myspace & he's answered a lot of questions about movies for me. So, when I make my movie it's him you'll have to blame!
One of my Myspace friends has a movie coming out Oct 13th. It's called iMurders. It stars William Forsythe & has Charles Durning in it, as well as Tony Todd. I posted an Amazon Review for it if you want to check it out.
& if you could leave a helpful vote, that would be, well, helpful!
Dylan,
It's ususally me asking that kind of question. It doesn't open up to the browse or paste in a site options? Or is the pic you're trying to upload the right size? If none of this works PM Shells & see if she can offer any advice.
Hello Everybody!
Welcome to Sonar4 thanks for joining the site, the more the merrier, and the more you share we get some interesting discussioms going, so feel free to throw your 2 cents in.
Hey, if everybody put there pic or something in their avatar it would be a whole lot more interesting and shed a little insight into where your heads are at. On neck, above shoulders, right?
Hi Keith,
I think I saw your post when you first came on here. Sorry, it's taken so long to respond so please accept this belated HELLO! Glad you made it a-z of zombie movies intact.
Hi Keith,
& welcome! Going through the horror section a-z is a good way to be familiar with any genre! Don't think I could take many zombies though. Looking forward to reading what you have & hope you enjoy Sonar4!
Always good to find another Lewis Shiner fan. & I can find them, so why isn't he better known? Or do I find the only other people that know his work? Have you read Black & White not science fiction but a really good book!
When I lived in L.A. Venice Beach actually, I used to go down to the beach on Sunday morning because they held an A.A. meeting out there & you could mingle in and get one of the Dunkin Donuts they had out. Someone also told me in L.A. AA was a good place to make contacts.
Welcome to Sonar4 Wayne! Did you send any stories to Shells?
As for reviews it's just like any other writing, write your honest reaction & opinion. I also post a lot of reviews on Amazon I'm trying to get to be a top rated reviewer in the hope it will get some notice for my writing, & I really enjoy the process, it's cool to see when there's a response to a review you wrote.
Heather, Since you liked the review of The Accidnetal Time Machine could you take a minute & stop by Amazon & give my review a helpful rating??
Or any other reviews I've done, actually quite a few. I'm trying to get to be a top reviewer in the hope that it'll draw some interest to my writing. I try to write good reviews, that is well written & thoughtful whether they be positive or negative. I think my review of (the movie) The Reader is pretty good too! Also, The Paper Chase the TV series & I'm going to put up a review of Frost/Nixon later tonight.
Yeah, Nick Cage is one of the few actors I'll take a chance on a movie for. The end may have been predicatable, I can see that point, but I think it was presented in above average of other movies.
Saw Watchmen yesterday. Too long didn't like the characters, even Carla Cugina wasn't interesting.
Saw Knowing tonight with Nicholas Cage I thought it was an excellent movie. The shots especially towards the end look like paintings, and through the whole movie I couldn't guess what was going to happen next, that hasn't happened since I saw Bound. & the framing of certain shots & the way light is hitting Cage is excellent Alex Proyas is certainly using all the tools of the trade to great effect.
